analysis of two magazine adverts

Ed Sheeran

This is Ed Sheerans album advert from Q magazine,I like this design as it'simple but you're still drawn to it. I think the orange is good as it stands out against the black background. I also like the idea of his album cover being in the bottom left corner of the advert, because the advert doesn't necessarily match the actual album cover, but doing this gives the viewer a chance to see what the album is too. The picture of him is good as it catches your eye, even though it's in black and white. The way he is looking down kind of makes the person looking at the advert look down to, to notice the writing. I also think how the writing is in the middle is effective because again, it catches your eye.

The Libertines

This magazine advert is promoting The Libertines DVD 'Boys In The Band', I think that it has a bit to much going on and you don't really know where to look, but I think that all the colours look good together apart from the blue writing across the middle. The name of the band is right across the middle of the magazine advert, so it stands out to the person looking at it. I think the picture is slightly strange as you can't really see what is going on it, as the writing is in the way.I really like the font, and I think it fits in with typical indie theme. There are a lot of good conventions of a typical magazine advert in this one, like the 'Out Now' and the information at the bottom.

  1. You need to do a post on the mag advert brief, and one on conventions of mag adverts (which we did in class)
