Analysis of another student video
The first thing I really like about this music video is the group dancing shots in the street because of the way they are all in the same clothes and doing the same dance. It fits in with the genre of the song and the tempo of the music really well. These group dancing shots are also full of different camera angles, so it keeps the audience interested in the music video. I also like how this video is full of performance shots of the singer in all different locations as again, it fits in with the genre of the song itself. This music video is also full of cutaways, for example at about 2 minutes 59 seconds, there is a cutaway of the performers feet as she plays the piano. I think cutaways like this keep the video interesting, and I will probably use cutaways in my music video. There are also some interesting shots used like slow motion, when the glass is smashed on the floor, I think this is a really good idea because it shows frustration well and you can really understand how the actor is feeling. One thing that I am not very keen on is the black and white all the way through the video, because it's slightly dull and in my opinion, adding a little bit of colour in might have made the video that little bit better. Finally, I really like the range of shots from about 3 minutes 45 seconds onwards because they swap from slow motion (of her in the bath) to shots of the dancers, and I think the slightly quicker paced shots add a really good effect to the over all music video.

Shot list
We have written the shot list on our story boards, but here is an example of some of the shots we are doing in our music video.
Opening shot - Low angle mystery shot of the main character walking and kicking stones.
Second shot - Focus Pull of a group and main singer at the front. 'When there's no-one left to fight... out on the town trying to find trouble' (Lyrics)
Third shot - Wide angle shot of two people walking to each other. '...a friend i hadn't seen since i was drinking under age'
Fourth shot - Close up of someones mouth with a cigarette, were speeding this up to very fast and doing it ten times. 'I was ten a day...'
Fifth shot - Wide angle shot. (stood on train track so you can see both platforms) 'How'd you say, little shit...'
Sixth shot - Tracking/pan shot of some bottles of cider. 'white lightning...'
Seventh shot - Mid shot of main singer. 'We wore checkerd season wallabies...'
Eighth shot - Long shot of people running. '(chorus) When there's no-one left to fight...'

Storyboards
This is a photograph of our storyboard for the music video. It explains and shows some of the various shots we are going to be doing within out video. We have also written numbers next to the shots as we have also written numbers on the lyrics sheet so we can see what shot goes with what lines in the music video, we did this so it would be easier for us, and the actors to understand what will be happening and when.
The reason I have uploaded an image of this close up of our story board is because we think it's a good shot to show. It's one off the most unusual shots we have done, as it shows a lot of fast takes of the words 'sticks 'n' stones' made out of sticks and stones. The reason it will look effective is because a lot of time and effort will go in to doing this take.
song choice
We have decided to do the song 'Sticks 'n' Stones' By Jamie T, for our music video.
We decided to use this song for our music video because we wanted to do something that would be fun to film and me and Izzy also thought we had lots of good ideas that would fit well to the lyrics. However, we did come across an issue which was that some of the language in the lyrics are quite bad, which we asked our teacher about and we agreed wouldnt affect anything. I also think we could maybe make the video quite humorous as there are quite a lot of paths we can take with this song.
When there's no one left to fight, boys like him don't shine so bright,
Soon as I see the dust settle, he's out on the town tryin' to find trouble.
When there's no one left to fight, boys like him don't shine so bright,
Soon as I see (LIGHTWEIGHT PRICK!) the dust settle, he's out on the town tryin' to find trouble.
I take a train again away from shame and blame a city pained to see, a friend I hadn't seen since I was drinking underage.
I was a ten a day, how'd you say, little shit, white lightning, heightening all my courage, quick wit.
We wore checkered season wallabies, buttoned shirts and whiskey, mutton dressed as lamb, a fan of bands like The Jam Jam Jam Jam,
I don't know who I am, he said I dunno if I can, I said yeah man, you can-can.
When there's no one left to fight, boys like him don't shine so bright,
Soon as I see the dust settle, he's out on the town tryin' to find trouble.
When there's no one left to fight, boys like him don't shine so bright,
Soon as I see the dust settle, he's out on the town tryin' to find trouble.
Drunk and being sick, I feel like shit, I gotta quit.
I hope I haven't missed the last train gonna be stuck in Hampton Wick,
With the boys across the platform shouting "lightweight prick!"
I'm a featherweight champion, cheap to get pissed, wish Candy were here with me, she'd deffa deal with it, tell 'em all to shut their mouths and go suck their mommas dicks, coz she ain't no she ain't that low, three fingers down, or the other two up, and I'll sing this proud.
Runnin' with believers, no time for fever, and I haven't got time for you either, with your sticks n' stones, sticks n' stones, I take 'em home on my own.
Runnin' with believers, no time for fever, and I haven't got time for you either, with your sticks n' stones, sticks n' stones, I take 'em home on my own.
As I travel down the track all my memories flood back.
We were runnin' at ease from enemies, and rushed back to your momma's flat, it's the only place but home I feel relaxed enough to crap, I know it sounds crude, but there's something in that.
How's danny doin'? Hear he's high flyin' and that, stockbroker in the city with a lady and a baby.
And Fee, is she free from the demons she had? Was it two months clean, routine to relapse.
She smoked all of your weed that's why the loved ones out to leave,
Why when you take the lead they stab you in the back 'till you can't breathe,
When you're bleeding on the floor, and no one hears your call at all, she screamed out to the party 'you are sheeps and cattle!'
I was hanging out with Louie in the shooting gallery, when the news got through to me about you and Jeremy.
Pat on my back, and a swig on my brew, you're still my friend, it's impossible to hate you.
Cradle to the grave, I know we always misbehave, people latch down and then they rain on our parade.
Girls we love leave when we want them to stay, like today, remember, what shall we say?
When there's no one left to fight, boys like us don't shine so bright,
Soon as I see the dust settle, let's go out and find some trouble!
Runnin' with believers, no time for fever, and I haven't got time for you either, with your sticks n' stones, sticks n' stones, I take 'em home on my own.

Research
Before we plan our own video, we need to research other Indie videos to make sure ours fits the conventions of the genre.
I think this video is good because it has a good use of close ups of the singer, which we will probably do in our video, and i think how the sing is on about a riot, but they're hitting each other with pillows is good as it is very unusual. I also think that the opneing to the video with the drum kit lit up looks effective, and it's a good way to introduce a music video. The video is full of fast and interesting shots to make the person watching, want to keep watching. The way the different people in the video are grabbing pillows at the start of the video looks effective as it makes the watcher wonder what is going to happen. There is a range of different shots to do with the story line and artist so there isn't one particular part to this video, like in some you get all storyline. At 2 minutes when they say 'i predict a riot' the people in the audience start hitting each other with the pillows, and a bit later on feathures start flying everywhere so it adds a bit of humour to the video, as there talking about a riot, but using the pillows.
The reason i have decided to put this video in my re-search is because i don't think the video goes very well with the song, although it still has a good effect, as you're not expecting it. I like how within the video they have still images of certain things, as it adds a little bit extra to the video which we might do in our music video. I also think the setting of this music video is interesting as it seems to be in a run down buliding, which would possibly be a good setting for my music video. I also think the video is very interesting as it seems as the clowns are against the normal people. The music video is also full of fun and fast takes, to make it seem more entertaining. The thing i like most about the video is how it flashes back to the people in the video, when they were children, and one of them has always been dressed up as a clown. At the start of the video we are introduced by a shot from inside a car looking out of the front window, which i think is an interesting shot to do, as it's a bit different. I really like the contrast between the clowns and the old people fighting, as it's very strange and unusual, and you think about what it has got to do with the song. There is a lot of slow motion shots in this video when they're fighting which makes it easier to see what is happening in the video, and it looks good. This video is purely storyline, as there are no shots what so ever of the person singing, I also think it is quite theatrical.
I really like the black and white near the start of this video, as it gives a different effect and makes shots of houses look more interesting. I also think the the camera shots from behind the glass when they're smashing it looks really good, and i've not really seen shots like this, our video would have a better effect if we did someting like this because it would be different to what most people would think of doing. I think this song would be really excellent to do for our media video, as it has a lot of potential shots and ideas. Finally, i also think that the way the clown near the start is brightly coloured but everything around him is dull is interesting as it sort of confuses the person watching the video. The opening shot if of a clown and the singer and it looks funny as the clown is really bright and Jamie is dark clothes, but in the video, the clown looks really depressed and the singer jumping around and singing, so it's a good contrast as you'd expect it to be the other way round. I really like the group shots because it looks like there having fun with the video and it makes the person watch it enjoy it more. At 2 minutes we see some shots that have been sped up which looks good, and i might do something like this in my music video. I think that the way the video goes from day and night also looks quite effective as you can see the difference between how they act in they day and night and I think it fits in with the lyrics 'let's go out and find some trouble'as you imagine them running round and causing trouble in the night shots as they are drinking, smoking and acting more roudy. This video again is a mixture between shots of the singer and shots to make a story. The reason i think this is because there are shots of him singing but then there are shots of him messing round with his friends.
Straight away in this video you notice the special effects, which we might use in our video because its different to most vidoes, we won't be using special effects all the eay through though as i think it gets a bit boring after a while. I like the close ups of the singer again, and the jolted effect of the man drinking a pint, but other than that i don't really like this video as it seems to repetitive. Over all though i do think all the bright colours look really interesting, but i don't understand properly what it has to do with the song. At 41 seconds we see a shot looking down on the band, and it is also in quite normal colours, which goes well with the next shot a few seconds later as it looks directly on to the band on the stage and is in blue and purple colours. I think that this video is mainly shots of the band, but does a few every so often of cars and other things. It is quite hard to see what is happening in the video because of all the special effects and I do think it has got to many special effects in it. Also, i really like the first shot of the band with the guitarist playing his guitar, and the shot is close up.
This song is possibly the one we are doing our music video of. I like how there are two different types of people talking in it like they are arguing, because it looks effective and there is a good contrast between both characters. I also think that the simple shots of 'Tim' on the sofa look good as he manages to make the video look interesting and funny by the choice of props used. The shots of the old people are effective because they don't go with the lyrics of the song. This adds an element of humour to the video. We might do something like the drinking scenes in our video as there are many story lines you can follow from this. I also like the shot of the pool balls, as the camera is pretty much level with the players and it reminds you of actually playing pool. The opening shot to this music video is off a pub sign about glasses been taken home, and straight away we get a feel of an average pub. This is interesting because the next shots are of someone who is drunk and getting aggitated in the bar, I think it looks good because there are old people just sat in the pub having a beer, and its quite funny. I really like the contrast between the drunk and the druggie as the one on drugs seems very sarcastic and relaxed where as the one who is drinking is kicking off. When one of the characters is talking there are a few shots of the other one acting the opposite. Most of the shots of the one drinking are of him talking to camera, so it looks as though he is having a conversation. This video is a mixture between storyline and band shots because the lead singer is playing both characters, so he is talking in it, but he has made the video so that you can see him singing/talking but still have something entertaining and funny to watch. I do really like this video, and it doesn't get boring as there are so many different shots in it.
